Positive Attendance: Explaining Student Absences

We would like to inform families of an important update to school attendance procedures in line with Department of Education requirements. Parents and carers are now asked to provide an explanation for their child’s absence within 7 calendar days of the first day of absence. After this time, unexplained absences may be recorded as unjustified.

What families need to know:

• Parents and carers are asked to provide an explanation for any absence within 7 calendar days.
• The school will continue to send a daily SMS notification if your child is absent.
• An email reminder will also be sent outlining any recent unexplained absences from the past week, supporting families to provide an explanation within the required timeframe.
• Absence explanations can be provided by replying to the SMS, replying to the email, or sending a written note to the school.

Planning extended leave?

If you are planning to withdraw your child from school for an extended period (for example, family or overseas travel), families are asked to complete the Application for Extended Leave – Travel prior to departure. The form is available here:

Regular attendance supports student learning, wellbeing and social connections. Thank you for working in partnership with us to ensure every child attends school regularly and has the best opportunity to succeed.
