Sport is an integral part of Gymea Technology High School. Our school provides a variety of exciting opportunities for students to participate in weekly sport and representative sport.
Weekly Sport
At Gymea, our weekly sports program is an integrated part of our curriculum and is structured across the different stages. Every Wednesday, Year 7 students participate in Stage 4 Sport during periods 1 and 2, while Year 8 students participate in Stage 4 sport during periods 3 and 4. Years 9 and 10 participate in Stage 5 sport during periods 5 and 6.
Sports Curriculum
Sport will consist of students rotating through a range of sporting activities including athletics, fitness training and team games. These activities will take place on the school oval, in the school’s gym or at Kareela Oval depending on the rotation the student’s group is completing that week.
Following on from our previous term’s positive engagement rewards program in sports, selected students in Years 9 and 10 have the opportunity to participate in the reward sports listed below. Eligible students are notified on their successful qualification for these additional sports.
For those students that have qualified, Term 2 consent forms are below and are to be returned to the front office by the specified date indicated on the note.
Extra-Curricular Sports Options
Students who have a keen interest, passion or talent for a particular sports or recreation program may be able to sign up for extracurricular sports activities as the year progresses. Some of these options may include specialist groups such as CHS sporting opportunities such as Touch Football, Soccer, Competitive sports is offered through Sporting Gala days and statewide knock out competitions.
Representative Sport
Students may be able to participate in various team sports in the Combined High School knockout competitions throughout the year. The following is a list of sports that Gymea Technology High School usually enter:

Students have the opportunity to try out for a number of team sports to represent the Sutherland Zone. If successful, students then trial for the Sydney East (SE) team and from there they can be selected in to the Combined High Schools (CHS) team. Students who are selected in the school swimming, cross country or athletics team also go on to represent the school at the Sutherland Zone Carnivals.
