The red poppies have a long been a sign of remembrance of the First World War, worn on Armistice Day and increasingly so on ANZAC Day. The red poppies were amongst the first plants to grow in the battlefields of France and Belgium that were destroyed with the intense bombardment associated with those campaigns during the First World War.
As a sign of remembrance in commemorating the 100 Years of ANZAC, Gymea Technology High School Students have each made their own poppy flower, scribing a message and pinning these to the schools fence along the Princes Highway. Each student from years 7 through to 12 have proudly joined in to mark their individual sign of remembrance.
