About This Event
Girls Can Create STEM Program
Come join us at Gymea Technology High School for a fun-filled day ‘Girls Can Create program’ for girls in years 4, 5 and 6 held near the end of the January school holidays on Tuesday 28 January to Wednesday 29 January.
The program explores activities built around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) designed to inspire and raise confidence in girls in these areas of learning through fun and clever challenges.
Girls will be guided through their activities by both primary and secondary educators from Gymea Technology High School along with STEM graduates and undergraduates from the University of Technology Sydney and the University of New South Wales in addition to staff from the University of Technology Sydney.
There are different activities girls can get involved in that are each created to inspire excitement while allowing the girls to discover their potential. See the activities on offer that you can select as part of your tailored program as you register for this event below.
Descriptions for Sessions
Digital Art – Draw out your artistic talent through digital art techniques to recreate your own unique drawing.
Taylor Swift Crowds – Investigate the optimum movement of Taylor Swift fans exiting from the Sydney Concerts.
Berocca Rockets – Launch your very own rocket by investigating chemical reactions and energy.
Banana Pianos – Using simple circuits, create a banana that will respond sound just like a real musical instrument.
Clean H20 – Learn about the science of water filtration to devise solutions for global access to clean water.
The Archaeologist Challenge – Develop an understanding of the skills of archaeology and start excavating for artefacts.
Barbie Bungee – Test and trial your very own creation of a bungee-jump that will let Barbie jump the furthest while keeping her safe/alive.
Binary Puzzles – Solve the secret codes with the help of binary numbers to defeat the escape room.
Protect the Baby – Take on the challenge to design and test the safest car seat to protect a child during a high speed collision
Light Up Shoes – Design your own lighting sequence to adorn any pair of shoes you like – for a fraction of the cost!

What can students expect?
Engage in inspiring and fun activities with other girls across Sutherland and St George schools that will build confidence and enjoyment in the STEM activities and challenges. Graduate the two day event with a stronger insight into their individual potential and the opportunities in front of them.
What time does it start and finish?
The 2 day event is a day program commencing at 8:30am and concluding at 3:30pm on each day. Details on pick up and drop of will be communicated to registered participants.
What will students end up with by attending the event?
Increased individual confidence and outlook with what the girls can do and what they create. They will take away experiences and as they explore new STEM skills and be able to bring home some of the amazing creations they will produce in their selected sessions.
What do students need to bring anything with them?
All the girls need is their thinking caps and excited minds. Food and refreshments will be provided on both days.
What will students take away from the event?
Along with bringing home some of the amazing creations they will produce in their selected sessions, all participating girls will be awarded with a graduation certificate that will bring together the experiences of the two days.
