Gymea Technology High School students are performing stronger than students in similar schools and schools across the state.
Initiatives designed and implemented at Gymea are seeing a positive trend of growth and development in the basic skills of reading, writing and numeracy.
Individual students’ results for NAPLAN 2022 were mailed to parents towards the end of Term 3.
Since the implementation of key initiatives that are unique to Gymea, we have seen an overwhelming trend of positive growth and performance in the basic skills of reading, writing and numeracy. These results indicate Gymea is performing above state average performance and also performing above what the department has identified as similar schools to Gymea that includes a mix of local and further distant schools. Programs such as Skillup in year 7 and 8 and the literacy assessment rubric supporting all assessment tasks in year 7 to 10, are two recognised programs that are unique to our school and are having a positive difference to the performance of our students.
The strong trend of performance in numeracy is underpinned by strategies and initiatives that support and extend our students and include the program of online tutoring throughout 20-21, a homework club and our High Potential and Gifted Education programs developing the mathematical extension and problem solving exposure for students.
The importance of these basic skills in reading, writing and in numeracy have always been essential ingredients for student success and support the many different pathways our students ultimately undertake. These skills will support each of them in their academics at high school through to the HSC, in university study or trade pathways.
We are proud of each of our students as they undertake these initiatives overwhelmingly in a very mature and positive sense. Thank you to our teachers who are committing extra efforts and time in this area, honing in on those initiatives and curriculum focus to ensure that student development is targeted and meaningful.
We have posted out all the NAPLAN results for 2022 and they should have been received by all families. If these have not arrived in the post, please contact the school so we can organise another copy to you.
