This year, we entered eight teams from our Year 9 and 11 Information Processes and Technology classes into the Departments Game Changer Challenge, which is a design thinking competition. The students were tasked with tackling the big issue of ‘a global challenge of ensuring healthy lives for all, at all ages’ and asked to find a solution to this problem.

Two of our teams were selected to progress to the virtual semi-finals held last week, with each team pitching their solution. Team Lend-A-Hand designed a solution to reuse and recycle medical equipment so that the saved expenditure could be reinvested to fund extra healthcare facilities and workers. Our second team, Quick Stich, decided to create a first aid mobile app which linked first aid kits to the app via NFC communication, so that those using the kits could easily see what was in them, how to use the kit and what to do in case of injury.

Well done to both teams for their hard work and effort in getting into the semi-finals, and a big congratulations to Quick Stitch who impressed the judges with their pitch and have now progressed to the Grand Finals in November. This is the second year running that our Accelerated Technology teams have progressed to the grand final of this competition – an amazing achievement!
